New Camera Van Reduces Musculoskeletal Disorders

Oro Loma Sanitary District implemented many effective solutions throughout their facilities in the past year to help reduce musculoskeletal disorders. This month we will highlight some of the engineering solutions they came up with to reduce injuries for employees when televising lines.

First they replaced their old camera van with a model that has higher headroom  so that technicians do not have to stoop to work inside it.

One of their most innovative solutions was to design and fabricate a custom tool to align the camera horizontally in a drop-type manhole. This tool enables collections workers to avoid manually supporting and aligning a heavy camera to enter branch lines.

As an added improvement, they installed drop down steps and a grab handle in the back of the camera van to allow safer stepping up into the back of the van.
